When I went up on deck of the Costa Concordia early in the morning to get a look at Rhodes, I was surprised to see the walls, turrets and castle around the city. It had a Disneyland-look I didn't expect. For a cruise

Petaloudes - Kremasti Village

Municipality of Petaloudes
Population: 4,585
12km from Rhodes Town

If you are looking for an unspoiled piece of a real Rhodes village, and yet have all the modern touristy facilities at your fingertips, than Kremasti is definitely your spot. A lively and busy village, Kremasti is located on the western coast of the island, the first village leaving from the airport travelling to Rhodes Town. It offers the visitor a resort with all the modern facilities, without losing any of its authentic traditions. The beach in Kremasti is a 10km long shingle beach, which is on the Aegean Sea and thus usually quite windy with rougher seas, perfect for all the water sports on offer. Should you not be one to partake of the water sports, you could take a nap in the shade offered by one of the numerous trees, or hide under an umbrella at one of the beach tavernas. There is a delightful array of traditional tavernas serving both local and European meals whilst enjoying the delightful view over the sea, and stunning evening sunsets. Pay a visit to the ruins of the romantic Venetian Castle overlooking the whole area, and be surprised to discover the charming church of Aghios Nicolaos inside it.
