When I went up on deck of the Costa Concordia early in the morning to get a look at Rhodes, I was surprised to see the walls, turrets and castle around the city. It had a Disneyland-look I didn't expect. For a cruise

Kamiros - Kalavarda Village

Municipality of Kamiros
Population: 512
30km from Rhodes Town

Kalavarda is a working agricultural village on the western coast of the island. It is situated on a clean sand/pebbled beach which offers some of the most beautiful sunset views from the island.

The scenery from the village is completed by the presence of the imposing peak of Profitis Ilias, and the walking paths are excellent for hiking of mountain biking. You may be lucky to spot one of the Rhodian deer which frequent these lush woodlands. Kalavarda offers a small hotel situated in the village itself, attracting a more discerning person whose aim is to get to know the locals, their traditions, ways and cultures. A relaxing holiday away from more touristic areas but close enough to nature to enable long hikes in the mountains, delightful swimming in crystal clear waters and excellent gourmet meals at one of the local tavernas.
