Embona is a mountainous village halfway up the Attavyros Mountain, it is the highest village at 800m about sea level, and is the centre of the local wine industry on Rhodes. Embonas may not have any picturesque architectural features; however, it is one of the most popular suggestions for a trip inland in Rhodes that combines folklore, a lively atmosphere and good food. It is a village full of life all year round with several taverns, bars and cafeterias. Try wander around the small back alleys, look at the colourful hand-made rugs and visit the Folk Museum. You are also quite likely to come across a dance group dressed up in traditional clothes. There are many wine cellars that offer wine tasting, and its worth trying the locally produced liqueurs too.

The locals are well known for their kefi or good spirits and are always ready to kick up their heels and dance in fact they are renowned for their dance skills. Just outside the village you can visit the Natural Cypress-tree Wood, a Natural Monument, as the wood extent of the forest is more than 1,35 km2. Embonas is situated in immense natural beauty and the views of the surrounding areas are awesome, taking a walk through the footpaths makes you feel like you re charging your batteries.
