Written by Rodney T W
When I went up on deck of the Costa Concordia early in the morning to get a look at Rhodes, I was surprised to see the walls, turrets and castle around the city. It had a Disneyland-look I didn't expect. For a cruise

Afandou - Archipolis Village

Municipality of Afandou
Population: 779
33 Km from Rhodes Town

The first inhabitants of Archipolis lived on the mountain known as Axintes. Tradition says that Archipolis owns its name to a prince called Archepolis, who came from Crete and chose this region to recover from a serious illness. Archpolis is a small, busy, traditional village. The main street is the centre of attraction with its small shops, tavernas, cafes and bars. Surrounding the village are the mountains of planted with centuries old pine trees, that cover the village in clear mountain fresh air piqued with the aroma from the pine trees. 3km before the village stands the magnificent church dedicated to Saint Nektarius, a very popular venue for weddings and baptism services as it is large and very picturesque. You can find many icons and frescos inside-well worth stopping here.
