Kolossos BC

Basketball has become the second most popular sport on the island of Rhodes; the sport has been practiced since the early 20th century.  With over 15 local clubs, who are members of the Basketball Association including the Local Referees Association.

The most popular club to date is the Kolossos Basketball Club, founded in 1963 and it was the first Greek basketball team located in the Aegean Sea region. Due to a limited cash flow the team was not able to compete at a high level due to shortage of funds.  

In 2000 the fate of the team changed when Kostas Kostaridis, business entrepreneur took over the Presidency of the team and changed the entire club management, setting his goals on bringing the team to the Greek A1 League.  In the 2004-2005 season the Kolossos basketball team won the championship of the A2 Ethniki, which sealed their place in the Greek A1 League, the highest professional basketball league in Greece.   Kolossos during the seasons 2006-2009 remain in the A1 league.   The club has gained respect and admiration in the community and is considered the most organized club on the island.

Children from the young age of 4 yrs - 19 yrs train at their outdoor stadium throughout the year, the club is extremely popular and very well organized with a large team of experienced trainers.   It currently has hundreds of children training in the hope of becoming professional basketball players.  

The Kolossos Club is based at the Venetoklio indoor hall, situated in the town of Rhodes, its facilities include wooden floor, 32m x 20m, training equipment, showers/w.c., the capacity to seat 1300 spectators, journalist & media platform and a snack bar for refreshments.
