Petaloudes - Maritsa Village

Municipality of Petaloudes
Population: 1,766
17km from Rhodes Town

Maritsa is a village situated inland, of the island. It is a very busy and lively village and is renowned for its traditional taverns and active nightlife all year round. The heart of the community is the village square surrounded by many fine taverns, cafeterias and bars. Noise is generated from the lively conversations, motorbikes being ridden up and down the main roads and of course music spilling out from all the shops. Just outside the village at the old international airport, car and motorbike races are held as well as model airplane shows. Outside the village you'll find two churches, the Aghios Georgios church, built in the 15th century and the Aghios Nikolaos church, with frescoes dating from the 15th century. Maritsa is not a particularly pretty village but its lively charm and great atmosphere leave it head and shoulders above the rest.
